Open House - Thursday, 9/3 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Thursday evening, we will come together to let parents learn more about what the year will bring for their child.  Parents will meet briefly in the MPR to get an update on our performance data from 2014-15, and then will follow their child's schedule through the eight periods of a Charger Day!  Don't miss the opportunity to meet your child's teachers and hear about the learning that will take place this year.

Planner
Tonight would be a great time to take a look at your child's planner from last week to see if they are starting the year on the right note!  The planner includes the monthly calendar of events, and has weekly pages for assignments and due dates.  This is a great way for you to encourage independence, while still having a way to monitor their progress in developing strong systems of organization. The Planner also serves as one communication tool between home and school.

Uniforms
Last week we held cluster meetings to go over a few procedures and expectations.  One thing discussed was the uniform policy to make sure everyone understood the expectations. Students should wear royal blue, white or light gray collared shirts everyday with khaki, navy blue, or blue jean bottoms. Spirit shirts are reserved for Fridays. Students may wear any Pin Oak jacket or hoody, or should wear jackets that meet the "tops" guidelines for color, with no emblems or designs. See the detailed uniform policy in the Planner.

Skirts should be no more than two inches above the knee. This may be a problem for our older girls who are still wearing last year's skirts.  Discussion of skirt length at the cluster meetings allowed me a fun opportunity to answer the question "What's a hem?"

Drop Off and Pick Up
I was contacted by several neighbors last week who are concerned that some families are using Avenue B for drop off and pick up.  This is a dead end street, and is not a safe location for student drop off and pick up.  Neighbors have contacted Bellaire PD and are requesting that drivers be ticketed.  Please use our circular drive when dropping off and picking up, or drop off along Glenmont (traveling west) before the crosswalk for supervised crossing.

Cherrydale Fundraiser!
Students will bring home their Cherrydale Fundraising catalog on Friday!  This is a great fundraising opportunity for our community.  Family and friends can order online, and have the items shipped directly to their home.  Watch for more information!

Have a great week!
